Rob Edwards and O'Neil represent the early candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was sacked on Sunday following the squad's 10-match winless beginning to the top-flight season.

And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have historic associations to the club - are among the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the former Luton head coach - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong contender for the position.

O'Neil is additionally appearing as a surprise candidate, although he would be a shock appointment considering he was released by the club in December last year.
