Accused Harasser Questioned: 'Yet Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'
A female accused with stalking Kate McCann reportedly deposited her a voicemail message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who witnesses stated has persistently asserted she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court heard call records and information recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - at the age of three during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most covered investigations and remains unsolved.
'I Do Not Need Money'
One recorded message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt declaring: "I know I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I know."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's answerphone expressed: "Imagine there is a slight possibility that I'm her? What happens next? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I possess a living here in Poland, I just want to know," the message continued.
The panel was informed that via emails, mobile messages and calls, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a attempt to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "memories" from a youth with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with the police force who compiled the information, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the call data.
On October 9th, 2024, the father picked up a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "a wrong number."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail declaring "I won't give up and I plan to establish my point."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg developed a connection online with Ms Wandelt preceding accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' residence in Leicestershire in last December.
Call logs showed Mrs Spragg had reached out through communication app to Mrs McCann to state the media had characterized Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the months before the appearance to that location, the county, in that winter.
The court heard communications between the two individuals, in that autumn, considering endeavoring to acquire Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from silverware at a restaurant.
"We need to take action," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the appearance to their house, the defendant dispatched a communication which stated: "We are sitting near the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark like detectives. I desired to achieve this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be doing that with the McCanns."
